Some tips for buying for these wonderful mentors who pour so much into your child’s life.
Consider: When to give
Take a look at the seasons in a job. Keep in mind the busy times and when a note of encouragement or a gift of gratitude might be particularly meaningful. Is there a tournament coming up? Has it been a challenging stretch for the team? Is there a break around the corner where your gift could be utilized? The best gifts are meaningful and not given out of obligation.
Consider: What to give
While I’m not saying some mugs aren’t cherished; having a collection of random ‘World’s Best Teacher’ mugs gets a bit overwhelming.
Have you gotten to know this teacher or coach? If you don’t personally have an opportunity to get-to-know them in person consider sending out a quick “favourites survey”. Ask them if they prefer tea or coffee, Tim Hortons or Starbucks, sweet or savoury, how they spend their free time, if they have a favourite restaurant, or perhaps red or white?!
Take away some of the guessing when you’re picking out a gift. With all of the time poured into others a great gift option is a family game, activity, or local gift card so that your teacher or coach can really get the most out of their home time.
Make sure you include words of gratitude no matter what gift you go with. I know teachers with folders full of thank you cards. Those words are valuable and often are kept for years!
Consider: How to make it happen
Once you’ve sorted out the when and what to give you can tackle the how. Chat with other team members and pool your resources to get a group gift. Throw a little year-end party to celebrate your leaders as a team or class. Still overwhelmed? You can shop for a custom basket that includes all of their favourite things. We’re here to help and you can order online or visit our shop to build a basket that’s just right!
