“Auntie, do you have any special drinks or treats with you”? This was my greeting when I walked into my Brother’s home to babysit recently. I asked what would qualify as a special drink and heard that hot chocolate or chai would be welcomed special drinks. My niece and I have shared plenty of special drinks together over the years and I know that the special drink often helps to mark the occasion.

As the evening went on I explained that I would be getting on a plane soon and going away for about a week on a special trip; I’ll be home building with an incredible agency in Mexico. After explaining what the week would look like my niece asked plenty of questions about how to build these homes. Her last question was if I’d have time for another sleepover when I returned.

These questions were good reminders that kindness counts on a large scale but also its importance on a small but regular scale. This is your reminder that special drinks and time together matters! With Family Day weekend and Valentine’s Day behind us I’m hoping that you have been able to tangibly share your love to the special people in your life. Making time, expressing your gratitude, and passing on gifts are all fantastic ways to demonstrate how important someone is to you.

Holidays on the calendar are wonderful occasions to put in extra effort for those you love. Take a look at your calendar and make sure you’re making time for special drinks or just because gifts. Those acts of kindness make a world of difference and ensure your love for someone is spread throughout the year!
