Gratitude - new years

New Year, why new you?

Every year during this time there we are bombarded with the importance of resolutions. This New Year lets change it up, instead of focusing on changing the things we dislike about ourselves, let’s focus on changing how we see ourselves.

Think about it, what makes the first day of January any more unique than any other day? Why does this day require us to make a laundry list of things we need to change or improve?

New years is just like any other day. We’re not trying to mitigate how exciting New Year is, but there are ways to make the New Year even more enjoyable! And a bit more encouraging than correcting yourself 😊

Attitude of Gratitude

Instead of cutting away our dissatisfaction, we should change our outlook and focus on the positives as an alternative to resolutions.

1. Recognize the small things

Recognizing the positive impact friends and family have on your life is a great way to start the New Year with an attitude of gratitude. Friends and family don’t come and go as easily as New Year resolutions so acknowledging why & how they support you is a healthy way to appreciate the good things in your life.

2. Leave the past behind

If you’re like most people, you’ve made mistakes and sometimes it comes back into your life as self-judgement, resentment or exhaustion. Going into the New Year, understand that the mistakes of the past cannot be resolved by holding onto them. Sometimes it’s best to recognize there are things that cannot be changed and that mistakes are a normal part of living. As the New Year comes around, reflect on what cannot be changed and how you’ve grown from it.

3. Give generously

Generosity starts with gratitude, as there is so much to be grateful for, especially towards the people who support us (friends and family). Giving should not be a New Years’ resolution, but a long-term habit change to recognize all the positive people in your life.
