I have always loved puzzles. It has been a much loved family activity for most of my life. Especially during the winter months it’s been a way of pushing through some of the darker evenings with a touch of challenge and creativity built in. I have certainly outstayed my welcome at Noreen and Darren’s place, staying into the wee hours of the night “just placing one more piece”. I have received a StumpCraft puzzle and StumpCraft puzzles have been included in some of our designs. I did a deep dive into their company and just like when I’m working on a puzzle I needed to pull myself away before I was satisfied. This place is impressive! StumpCraft Puzzles, founded by Jasen Robillard, specializes in creating laser-cut wooden puzzles that showcase the best of Canadian fine art. Their initiatives go beyond creating heirloom-quality puzzles; they actively engage in efforts that promote mental health, support families in need, and contribute to social equity. StumpCraft has 3 main values. Shared below in their own words: Generosity: Sharing the Gift of Collaboration Puzzles are gifts, often given to bring joy. We see our work in the same light. Each collaboration, every fragment of time, every piece of talent shared, is a gift. This value of generosity is what fuels appreciation for each other and the community around us. Recognizing the therapeutic benefits of puzzling, StumpCraft has partnered with organizations like the Huntington Society of Canada. Together, they've developed a 34-piece wooden mini puzzle titled Blooming Hope, featuring artwork by Calgary artist Michelle Austen. This puzzle is designed to raise awareness for Huntington's disease and is tailored for individuals with motor skill challenges, offering both engagement and support. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, StumpCraft donated puzzles to nurses and families with sick children at the Ronald McDonald Houses, providing a source of comfort and distraction during challenging times. StumpCraft's involvement extends to their support of the Highbanks Society. Highbanks Society is a Calgary-based non-profit and registered charity that provides individual family accommodation and integrated support services for young mothers (16-24 years of age) and their children. A portion from each sale of the Queen Bee puzzle goes directly to the Highbanks Society and their incredible cause.
