Honour the Forever Young!

This week in Alberta marks Seniors’ Week. A week to recognize and appreciate those who have ascertained the elderly status. Seniors’ Week was first recognized in 1986, inspired by the vision of Alice Modin who began campaigning to start Seniors’ Day in Strathcona County, AB. Thank the Heaven’s above for her because our seniors are incredibly special and hold a very important role in our lives and communities.

Our seniors carry our most precious memories, memories that are a critical touchpoint for our families, communities and even the greater society to move forward. Our seniors have the unique ability to remind us of where we have been, which helps to determine where we are going. These memories can be great lessons in fostering and sustaining relationship.

Our seniors also hold a wealth of wisdom that we have the opportunity to tap into from time to time. The saying “they don’t make ‘em like they used to!”, is a sentiment often expressed to help some of us understand the importance and significance of grit, hard work, process, endurance, commitment, and longevity.

So carve some time out of your busy schedules to spend with and appreciate the seniors in your life. Honour and cherish them as much as you can for as long as you can. They are precious gems that have been gifted to us for a short period of time.

Happy Seniors Week!
