Taking Care of You Means So Much!

Coming out of the demands of the holiday season and entering into a new year with high expectations can be taxing on both your mind and spirit. Even the most resilient of people can find themselves in a post-holiday slump. Returning to regular day-to-day routines can look different for each of us. For some it can be something that we ease in to, while for others it can feel like an abrupt change. For some, getting back to work and catching up with colleagues is welcomed and exciting, for others the thought perpetuates an anxious agony. Getting the kids back to school can be met with eager enthusiasm while for others, having the kids gone can trigger loneliness. Or you are A-OK and ready to embrace the new year with gusto! In whatever state you find your mental health, here are some quick tips for staying on top of it that may serve you throughout the year:

  1. Take care of yourself – sleep, exercise, and eat well. Pretty basic instruction but proven to be the foundation of good mental health.
  2. Have some fun! – so the holiday season has ended but that does not mean that the fun has to. Even in your regularly scheduled program, make time to visit with friends and loved ones or to do the things that you truly enjoy.
  3. Be patient with yourself – if you have found yourself to be in a bit of a slump or low mood, don’t be too hard on yourself. You are not expected to be bright and chipper every second. Take the time to process your feelings and take the time you need to recover. There is no rush.

Maintaining your mental health is paramount. We want you to feel as good as possible. If you are good, do not underestimate the power of a kind word or gesture to lift the spirits of those around you who may not feel as great. As always, we are here to help and inspire you 😊
