International Self-Care Day

Sunday July 24, 2022 will mark International Self-Care Day; an annual opportunity to acknowledge the importance of self-care as a means of maintaining optimal health and avoiding prevention. The Gift Designers cannot stress enough, the importance of finding balance and practicing self-care. We have so many incredible people in our community who continue to pour into others consistently but fall short of re-filling their tanks. You cannot pour from and empty cup and so here are some tips on maintaining consistent self-care practices:

Regular relaxation. If you are amongst those who have a busy schedule, schedule in the time to relax. Do whatever you have to. Try setting a reminder in your phone or calendar to designate regular time to relax. The end of the day, after work or perhaps after the kids are in bed, is a perfect time to decompress and take a few deep breaths.

Engage in activities that you find relaxing. For some that may look like a good run or workout while for others, it could mean an hour or two in the garden. Whatever floats your boat just do what enjoy!

Think of yourself as your best friend! Be as kind to yourself as you would to a friend that you hold dear to your heart. Treat yourself and spend time in your own company. It’s a great way to experience personal growth and development.

Ask for help when you need it! We are not meant to carry burdens on our own which is why we are advocates of fostering relationships. Lean on those in whom you trust explicitly. Good friends are always there for you!

Know Your Boundaries. A struggle for many but having appropriate boundaries in place can alleviate a world of stress. If you are among those who feel or experience anxiety at the thought, simply remember this: boundaries protect not only yourself, but also the relationships that you treasure most!

Although International Self-Care Day is just one day out of the year, work on being aware of your needs and practicing self-care everyday. Its not just about a trip to the spa, or catching up on sleep, but rather satisfying your inner most needs. Reach out to those you love who might not know how to slow down and take time for themselves. We also must say that this observance creates a unique gifting opportunity, one that you can use to remind friends, loved ones and colleagues that they matter!
