New Year, New You?

So many of us are determined to reset our habits and manifest a healthy lifestyle. We want to feel good and look good and as a result, we see many hitting the gym or subscribing to fitness apps and changing up their diets. We are putting down the chocolate and treats to pick up salads and smoothies. Is this you? What is your motivation?

At TGD, while we fully support your every endeavor to achieve optimal physical health, we do not believe that there is any sort of quick fix. We believe in the importance of balance and executing a routine that you are comfortable with and works best for you. We would hate to see you embark on a journey of self loathing and depravity so here are a few tips to help you out.

  1. Don't deprive yourself. Just balance your indulgences! -  For those of us who are into super hard-core restrictive diets please know that it is ok to have a cheat meal occasionally. Cheat at minimum once per week. You will thank us later 😉
  2. Drink lots of water! -  Staying hydrated is key! Our bodies will often trick us into thinking that we are hungry when we are in fact, dehydrated. So, the next time you feel like you need a bite, don’t stop for the cheeseburger but chug some water and see how you feel!
  3. Move your body! - Whether you sit all day, physically labour or chase the kids around the house, getting outside for even a 5 minute walk will do your mind, body and spirit a world of good.
  4. Know your limits! -  When it comes to working out and moving your body, don’t push yourself further than you can go. Remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint. If a healthy lifestyle is your goal, it will not be accomplished by killing yourself in the gym. If your friends and loved ones notice you have gone a little too far, of course TGD might have a little something they can give you to help out 😉
  5. Rest - Good sleep hygiene is imperative to achieving your nutrition and fitness goals.

Wherever you find yourself in the physical health journey, remember to keep the main thing the main thing. Take care of yourself, take care of your community, and enjoy life!
