Our world is quite literally inundated with technology. Screens are everywhere! Screens in our hands, screens on our desks, screens in our living rooms, screens in the elevator, and sometimes if you’re at a real swanky restaurant there are even screens in the washroom. Are we ok with this? If we truly take a moment to reflect, are we assuming that this flow of life is actually healthy? It is definitely something to think about, isn’t it?

There is research that support the notion of social media as being the millennial generation’s drug of choice? Do you agree or do you believe that it is more than that? To believe that the addiction spans far greater than social media would not be far-fetched. For those of us in businesses or are employed in positions that rely heavily on email communications and the need to be “in the know” or consistently updated, have the same addiction issue. So the question is, and you may not have considered this, can you unplug?

We have seen meme’s on social media that offer the following scenario for contemplation: you are awarded a trip to a remote island, and you can bring one person with you. You are not required to pay for anything as all of your amenities and essentials will be provided for you. Quite literally paradise. The catch is that you will not have access to a phone, computer or tv. Could you do it? We would like to think that we can, but the reality is that we might not be able to.

We can always try! The Gift Designers would like to encourage you to unplug and to help you encourage others to unplug.  Take the time to remove yourself from all things tech and get back to the basics. Spend QUALITY time with your friends and loved ones. Seriously guys, put the phone down, step away from your laptop, and turn the tv off........well maybe not because how will you enjoy one of our infamous Movie Night gifts 😉
